How to enter trade manually but exit using strategy - parameterset diversification - strategy c...
Originally from ticket #1424.
Dear Sir,
I am a paid user of MT framework.
I just found out from NinjaTrader support that we cannot enter trade
manually then switch ON a strategy to manage / exit the trade. The open
position will not be picked up by the strategy unless we code in a
historical entry for the strategy which is not recommended and too much
work, unless one is very good in programming (eg: a NT7 consultant).
===
" What you can do is set the strategy to 'immediately submit' in your
strategy options (Tools > Options > NinjaScript > Strategies) and then it
should pick up the position *provided you coded in an historical entry for
the strategy*, so at the time of enabling the strategy would hold your
position needed coming from historical data, which then would fit with what
you have in your live account - in this case the exit signal triggered by
the strategy would not be ignored but executed and since the live account
position matches the strategy one, it would work on the account level as
well. We have a more defined way of doing this action on our feedback list
for future consideration as well. "
" I would unfortunately not have any sample code I can give you here, you
would need to ensure the strategy entry is done on historical data, this
could be done for example via a CurrentBar or DateTime check comparing to
Time[0], so you would indeed enter for example in yesterday's session - if
you're not a programmer you could always contact a NinjaScript consultant
to create this for you as custom code -

As addition, we would not recommend letting NT running as a black box while
you're not in range to assist in case any issues are coming up with the
order execution, it's more an automated trading tool that would be overseen
periodically by an experienced trader.
That being clarified, this enhancement suggestion is on product
management's tracking list under # 294 already and will be given
consideration as we further enhance our NinjaTrader platform. I would have
not ETA or commitment at this time to provide though.
Thanks again for your input. "

I tried to test whether I could do something similar using the MT framework.
I have 2 charts open, both on 1mins, mini-dow YM 06-12
1st chart, I switch on strategy - MT Easy trader
2nd chart: I switch on a strategy which uses MT ATR Signal, this strategy
only looks to exit open position (it will never enter a new postion). When
this strategy is ON, the MT Easy Trader window also appears - which is
normal.
When I enter a BUY MARKET in chart 1, the strategy crashed with error -
dialog box msg. Please see PAGE 1 and PAGE 2 attached.
Question: Will MT framework allow me to what I stated in the subject matter
of this email ?
Thank you.
Joo Beng
We do not recommend the following approach
submit 'immediately submit' in your
strategy options (Tools > Options > NinjaScript > Strategies
you can enter a trade manually using the MT Easy Trader,
simply enable the strategy you want and use the Easy trader UI to enter the trade, after which all other trades will be taken by your selected strategy.
click buy to enter the trade long or sell to enter short.

I forgot to mention that sometimes, having entered a trade, we might want to enable different (trade management) strategies to exit the trade, depending on the market condition (eg: how much we are in the profit before we switch strategy ON and go to bed). As an example: if we are deep in profit, we might want to hold overnight and ride the trend further or somehow more room for the price to move etc.
From what i gather from your reply, it seems that the strategy will have to be pre-determined.
Is this correct?
You can alter settings on the fly using the MT Easy Trader and its advanced options mode or, the following component from one of our partners:

For predetermined - you might be best to use parameterset diversification to cater for each viable scenario/ market conditions.
This may mean pausing others/ or shceudling to prevent order clashes on the same account.
The easiest way is to use multiple accounts but trade the same instrument
