MTDS Pre Sales Questions
Originally from ticket #3344.
I am a demo account user for NT7. I discovered your company through their add-on partner page. Here are my questions.
- If I install your setup and double-shot (free downloads), will it change the look and feel of NT7? If so, in what way?
- Will it wipe out my custom strategies (provided there are no errors in those strategies)?
- Will it add MT Indicators and Strategies, and will they be found in the same places as other Indicators and Strategies in MT7?
- If I were to edit one of your strategies, will it bring up the NT7 Strategy Wizard, or only the NinjaScript version?
- Does MT provide its own strategy Wizard, or does it use the NT7 strategy wizard?
- It looks like you have no phone or skype support for demo users? Only email?
- So what happens if I try to use an MT strategy with a live account? Will it be blocked until I pay the MT license fee?
- I am not a programmer, but I'm trying to learn. I like Wizards, but I realize they are limited. Is the MT API and SDK difficult to learn for non-programmers? More difficult than NT7's?
- Do your indicators and strategies, in general, demonstrate historical performance data that is quantified and documented on your site?
- Do you recommend using Bloodhound in conjunction with MT?
I have been slowly learning NT7, developing strategies with Wizard (none too impressive yet), and even a bit of Ninjascript programming. I'm also perusing all the partners, ecosystem partners, etc. My goal is automated trading with profits of at least $3K a month with $10K in a live trading account, and not to throw money away needlessly on partners, platform or education. It will already be expensive to trade NT7 through FXCM, which seems to be the best option. NT also has a license fee. I like that your offerings are free for demo users.
Thanks, Steve g....

- If I install your setup and double-shot (free downloads), will it change the look and feel of NT7? If so, in what way? - No Change - any strategies running that are powered by the MTDS will have more graphics and a chart trader style control to allow realtime interaction
- Will it wipe out my custom strategies (provided there are no errors in those strategies)? - No
- Will it add MT Indicators and Strategies, and will they be found in the same places as other Indicators and Strategies in MT7? - It will some MTDS Indicators and these are located in the indicator list - they are used by the MTDS Trade Engine - to calculate adaptive stops, tartgets filters, exits and trailing stops - if you select the option to install the MTDS SDK - it will install open source strategies
- If I were to edit one of your strategies, will it bring up the NT7 Strategy Wizard, or only the NinjaScript version? - the MTDS SDK Strategies are open source NinjaScript accessible via the NinjaScript Editor
- Does MT provide its own strategy Wizard, or does it use the NT7 strategy wizard? - None - it uses open source - use the NT NinjaScript Editor - save a copy - then edit the code
- It looks like you have no phone or skype support for demo users? Only email? - Priority Help Desk Support is provided for subscribers - notifications are by email - and by direct online Help Desk account - also 24/7 forum - where another channel is required such as skype or remote desktop this used - limited support is provided for free users and unlimited forum access
- So what happens if I try to use an MT strategy with a live account? Will it be blocked until I pay the MT license fee? - It will work -but will display a License Requirement Popup message after 30 days usage from after day 1 of the live trading account - but will always be 100% free for sim/demo account trading
- I am not a programmer, but I'm trying to learn. I like Wizards, but I realize they are limited. Is the MT API and SDK difficult to learn for non-programmers? More difficult than NT7's? it is extremely easy for a programmer and only takes 1 or 2 lines of code to write an entire strategy with all off the shelf features as shown in the video... ideally you need to be a very basic programmer/ e.g. someone who can save a copy of a file and change a few details such as indicators and parameters - or use the development team or any other c# developer - snippet support is provided - in depth support for subscribers/licensed purchasers.
- Do your indicators and strategies, in general, demonstrate historical performance data that is quantified and documented on your site? - we do not offer trading or investment advise - only assistance in the usage of tools for traders to use - traders should not believe anything at all from any vendor and should try the software for themselves with no time penalty so you can see what works or does not fit you and your personal trader psychology and capital, risk appetite and style. Data differences, timezone, data series settings, parametersets will all cause differences.... obtain as much historical data as you can and test on that....run in realtime and assess and track in segregated sim accounts.

- Do you recommend using Bloodhound in conjunction with MT?
If you want to use other indicators not a part of the MT Framework for example Bloodhound could be a good tool for a non developer to use - then hook up the result to more sophisticated trading technology to see if it is viable is the route of a few traders - so attach the bloodhound indicator to the MT Framework or MTDS - that would be a project to do that, there is one advertised on big mikes forum i believe. We cannot guarantee it will be compatible - embedding the indicator into the MT Indicators/Strategies might stop working in the future or require development changes - so you might find it stops working in the future... some traders reported they like the mixture of the two technologies. You could also use Bloodhound to create strategies from the MT Signals Indicators perhaps.
On a foot note: MT Framework offered the first generic trading system - but it only uses the indicators in the MT Framework and does not have a Strategy Building Graphical Tool - Bloodhound which arrived much later is more generic and has a strategy wizard kind of gui. Where as currently the MT Framework has limited usability features - but provides a lot of power and sophistication and suits more techy traders perhaps :

Sounds great and i wish you the best results - the best solution is not to rush and not buy in to something that forces you to trade too soon to pay for its license or lease... much better to try all you need and keep your capital and trade risk free on a sim for example. What we try to do is provide everything you need and if you find it useful and want to live trade at sometime we ask for a license at that point. Also being that we have many free users - we do ask for in the case of traders wanting multiple support request of in depth support - that people subscribe to assist with the running costs and overheads that can cause.

Thanks for your reply. So to be clear, the forum is available 24/7, and
you can communicate with people on the forum through Skype? Are there
actual MT support personnel working the forum, or just users? I'm in
Western USA, and you are in England. So if I ask a question by email,
there's a 1-day delay in getting replies. Therefore, anything that
allows for instant feedback would be appreciated.
A few more basic questions:
- NT8 Beta is supposed to come out by end of this month, and I'm on the
list to get a copy. From what you know about it, will it be a game
changer? Has MT already been configured to work with it?
- Do free MT downloads come with an MT Strategy Analyzer? Or do you
still have to use the native NT7 Strategy Analyzer? I'm guessing that
MT strategies have a lot of variables that can be tweaked with the
optimizer.
- Is USAR better than Double Shot? Why is Double Shot a separate
download rather than just part of the open source strategies
collection?
- One very basic NinjaScript question, if it's not too much trouble. I
want to know how to disable an action or condition. This is not
explained in the NT7 User Manual. I perused some forums and a C#
guide, but I'm still not sure. Looks like the Break command or the
Disable command would do it. I haven't tried yet. This is so
fundamental because one should be able to add and subtract components
without re-writing a whole strategy. In the Wizard, you can delete
components, but it would be nice if you could simply disable them
within the Wizard as well.

Live Support
Live Support is provided by the MicroTrends Help Desk - via email notification, even personalized video, image, templates and settings are provided for subscribers ... for lifetime purchases - more in depth. On the very rare occasion if this model is not sufficient we have 1 to 1 skype and remote assistance options
Depending when you ask the questions and the queue it could be 5 seconds to the next day or later in the evening due to time differences - Or after the weekend - for example you ask it late afternoon Friday. I am in Manila Timezone currently - so i pick up email in the morning EST PM and work until the EST Midday.... So there is plenty of scope 2 times per day for communication.
24/7 Self Assisted Support:
24/7 Self Assisted Support is available via the videos and the Help Desk Forum Articles/Knowledge base - which consists of previously asked questions and answers and articles.
You use this to search in not to discuss with other members - this is self assisted.
NT8 Beta - We have no news of this- regretfully no it will not work -all technology will be broken and it will be a long wait maybe 6 months to 1 year before its all working.
Strategy Analyzer- We only provide Indicators and strategies - so you simply use NT Strategy Analyzer
The MTDS SDK USAR Trader is an open source example of a strategy powered by the MTDS... strategy trade engine.
" - One very basic NinjaScript question, if it's not too much trouble. I l."
we do not ever use the strategy wizard or support it, it is supported by NinjaTrader - you can get more support for it from NinjaTrader they offer a training course/support facility
To go forwards from here you should watch the MTDS video and install it and try it or consider alternatives
Please see here for what it is and watch this video to understand more - this one uses the Multi MA Crossover

Install the MTDS
http://downloads.microtrends.co/MTDoubleShotStrategyFoundation/MTDoubleShotStrategyFoundation-Setup.exe
Make sure you select the SDK option when installing...
after starting NT - go to the strategies and edit one of them and compile
Then strategies will appear... Try the MTDS SDK USAR Strategy - make sure you set the Trade Setup/ Trade Entry Mode to see signals... pleas watch the video series before asking for support
Alternatives
Our service provides the technology only -we are not regulated so it is required that a trader is to be self sufficient and adept as a trader and make their own trade plan- and so we only assist with settings etc - we do not offer any education or advise for trading - so we are geared up to provide online support to keep the costs low- if you want more 1 to 1 active support and mentoring:
You should consider someone like BlueWaveTrading who will charge a greater price point and mentor you 1 to 1
http://bluewavetrading.microtrends.co - Randy is not the normal vendor as he has a real track record, the systems are used in a signals service with a real track record and he provides all the coaching and support....
There is also Woodies CCI CLub - http://woodies.microtrends.co - they have a trading room where traders who use the tech to trade with mentor and coach also...
